A Passion for
Baking
When it comes to perfect pecan pie, count your blessings
Isn’t that pecan pie on our cover gorgeous?
It is my very own prize-winning pecan pie, fresh out of my publisher’s
test kitchen and snapped up in a portrait of sweetness. It’s just a
taste of what’s up ahead in my new cookbook, A Passion for Baking (Oxmoor
House 2007). Speaking of pie, which pie personality are you? Classic
apple pie, big, fat blueberry pie, or a gooey heartland Shooflly Pie?
Can’t pick, huh? Well, no wonder. November is the playoffs of pie
season. Leave freezer pies (over priced, tasteless and loaded with
chemicals) and those tasteless add-water pie mixes to the no-taste crew.
Homemade, fresh-from-the-oven pie is easy and so much better you’ll be
trying a new one every day. Don’t forget to check out my best
Thanksgiving Recipe Collection featured below. It’s your all-in-one easy
reference of everything from the turkey to the sides.

Pecan Pie

definitive pecan pie from my upcoming A Passion for Baking, (Marcy
Goldman, Oxmoor House, 2007). This is the ultra pecan pie, big, sweet,
and satisfying! Make sure you use plenty of fresh crop Georgia and
California pecans and upgrade, it with some Tate and Lyle’s corn syrup
for a mouth-watering pecan pie like no other.
Pecan Pie Biscotti
Don’t you love concept baking? What’s
great in pie is great in biscotti. Pecan pie without the sticky mess. A
superb gift biscotti. How good is this recipe? Ask out tester Amy who
had to beat tasters off with a stick. Is Amy popular these days? You
bet. On her recipe form she wrote: “These are beyond delicious’.

holiday perfect. Accented with lemon, cream, vanilla and even a few
cranberries, if you’ve a mind to add ‘em.
Deluxe Chocolate Shoofly Pie
You will have to shoo people away from
devouring this pie in one hearty serving! It is a gooey, sweet pie that
is pure Heartland American baking – perfect for Thanksgiving. This
version has all the right notes, taking something old-fashioned and
marrying it to today’s tastes. Our tester pronounced this ‘sublime’.
Classic Sweet Potato Pie
An exceptionally luxurious sweet potato pie, replete with brown
sugar, cream and spice. One sliced and you might never look at pumpkin
pie again. Pie-shaw!

Whoa Nelly and Heavens to Betsy - leftover
sourdough biscuits get gussied up in a city slicker dessert. Great for a
BBQ supper or a brunch. If you have pecan biscuits or pumpkin biscuits,
they would work great too.
Luscious Pumpkin Pound Cake
A bourbon spiked brown sugar glaze is the final touch on this
irresistible, gone in one Thanksgiving dinner, cake.

Zesty Garlic Butter Sesame Crescent Rolls
Move over Dough Boy! These rock. One batch
of these garlicky-soft rolls and everyone will bless the baker. Not just
for Thanksgiving.
Parker House Bread
No
more fiddling around if you have a crowd. Butter dipped Parkerhouse
bread rolls you pull apart as they come out of the oven. Make one
regular and a batch of garlic or parmesan cheese ones.
Pom
Bakery Corn Cakes
Pom
Bakery in Montreal no longer makes these amazing corn treats, but you
can.
Great fresh baked or toasted and slathered with butter. Not a corn
muffin, not corn bread – something better!
The taste of Boston Brown bread in mini
loaves – perfect for traditional New England Thanksgiving side bread.
Make three little loaves or a baker’s batch of small ones (if you have
the mini loaf mold).
