July 2009 Issue

Writer's Block Blueberry Streusel Pie and Coffee

This amazing pie is made with two types of blueberries, some amazing flavor notes, all nestled in a buttery, flaky crust, with just a touch of streusel on top. If you want to get a job done, bake up pie to keep you company. See Country Fresh Blueberry Pie with Butter Streusel. Read more in A Note from Marcy. I don't suffer from writer's block nor baker's block - I have the opposite problem - a surfeit of too many ideas for stories and recipes but that's a tale for another day. Meanwhile, there's also some free recipes such as The Splitter and Chewy Big Batch Chocolate Chip Cookies (in case you read about the Nestle's Tollhouse Cookie Dough recall) and a few Canada Day and July 4th treats like Miss Liberty Cheesecake or mouth-watering Maple Cream Muffins. Ceramic mug by potter, Peter Hamilton. For information contact editors@betterbaking.com

A Note From Marcy

This is where you'll find the new monthly Baker's Secret Recipe Stash as well as occasional bonus recipes that emerge for no special occasion, save the whimsy of the baker in residence. There is always a free recipe or two accessible in your regular newsletter subscription, as well as the essay of the month from your host baker & editor. This is also where you'll find updates on what's happening with my baking, writing, and speaking or radio or book signing appearances, and anything else that needs broadcasting. Check the Note from Marcy Archives to enjoy previous features of mine on baking, cooking, writing, publishing, food, funny things, love, family, friendship, and life. Scent of a Baker
Wheat Siren is my first perfume launch! In collaboration with Love Potion Magichal Perfumerie.
To order, see link on right of this page. Wheat Siren is a vanilla, orange blossom, jasmin and honey scent. It starts warmly vanilla and then quickly segues to a gentle floral oriental, mildly jasmine and orange blossom with just a hint of vanilla and honey to keep it warm and romantic. Aromas from the kitchen, scent from the boudoir, flowers from the garden: fragrances everywhere! As a baker girl/chef, it is no surprise that I am seduced by scent. In addition to working with fragrance and flavors in the bakery and kitchen, I also dabble in candle making, personal and custom perfumes, bath salts, and hand milled soaps as well as home fashioned incense and potpourri, specialty tea and coffee blends. I have been a contributor on fragrance for newspapers as well as online, and am a scent consultant on occasion. It is an area of interest and expertise that keeps evolving. I am delighted to share my scent reviews and discoveries I find on my perfumed travels. It's just another way to nourish the senses. Visit

BetterBaking.com Book Shelf

Got Books, (and Music and Movies) Bakers read and review and here's the place to find out my book reviews on cookbooks, mind, body, spirit books, fiction, non-fiction - you name it. Sometimes there are some music reviews that also sneak in, not to mention some film and DVD rental musts.  Forget the hype; bakers do not live by bread alone.

A recipe for every occasion
Baking or Cooking - it's all in there. Or just ask the chef.

BetterBaking.Com issues

What a wonderful way to see what you've missed but can still enjoy! Saunter through the incredible cover art of
BetterBaking.Com issues  in the last couple of years or check out Baker's Stash, Previous Monthly Issues or the amazing site http://www.archive.org/web/web.php You'll also see the recipes that went with each theme issue. If a recipe is missing, chances are, it's now in a print cookbook of mine (but there are over 2500 more recipes to choose from). More recently, we've put listed Baker's Stash, Previous Monthly Issues or scroll down on the Note from Marcy page to see what you may have missed. If a recipe is missing or not linked, chances are it's now in a cookbook or in the BB Test Kitchen and on its way into a new cookbook - but ask.

A peek preview of a book in progress

www.DwayneBritton.Com Sings Baker Baker

Soulful, jazz, pop, Broadway stylings in a singer that will stop you in your tracks. And hey, he also is a Red Velvet Cupcake fan. Check Red Velvet Cupcakes Britton's music is available at
www.DwayneBritton.com or on Itunes. The range of music and treatments (seriously, you'll keep wondering from song to song, if it is the same guy - so versatile is the voice and arrangements) will make your jaw drop - and your heart take flight. Trust me. I know music; I know Red Velvet Cupcakes.  His version of Tori Amos' Baker Baker is riveting even if you are not a baker but if you are - you'll be down for the count.

www.EricDegray.com
One of the most polished, original of Broadway style singers, this former figure skater brings a romanticism that makes you remember why the songs he sings are classics far away from the show they originate from. Available on Itunes and at www.EricDegray.com
