I love the components of strawberry shortcake: tender cake, whipped cream and berries. What I don’t love is having to assemble it pronto and serve it soon after. On top of that, we all know leftover biscuit-based shortcake is not a great keeper (talk about mush!) Happily, this cake combines the best of shortcake flavors but a novel way. This recipe offers a rich golden cake as the foundation for sweetened cream cheese and dollops of strawberry preserves. It all bakes up into a pretty affair that will bring raves. Our testers already reported tasters demanding the recipe after one bite!
