$250. 00 Chocolate Chip Cookie or Almost Mrs. Fields

This famed recipe is the king of urban legend recipes – recipes that are passed around and have an unlikely (but charming tale attached to them). This one, also known as the Nieman Marcus $250.00 Cookie Recipe as well as the Mrs. Fields Cookie Recipe is a classic.

5 cups oatmeal, any kind (quick or rolled)
2 cups unsalted butter
4 cups all-purpose flour
2 teaspoons baking soda
2 teaspoons baking powder
2 cups sugar
2 cups brown sugar, packed
3 cups chocolate chips
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 - 8 oz. Hershey Chocolate bar (grated)
4 eggs
2 teaspoons pure vanilla
2 cups chopped walnuts (optional)

Preheat oven to 375 F. Stack two baking sheets together and line top one with parchment paper. Prepare another set the same way.

Measure oatmeal and blend in a blender to a fine powder and set aside.

In a mixing bowl, cream the butter and both sugars. Add the eggs and vanilla, and blend well and then add in the oatmeal, flour, salt, baking powder, and soda. Add chocolate chips, Hershey bar and nuts.

Shape two tablespoons of dough into balls and place two inches apart on the cookie sheets. Bake on upper rack of oven.

Bake for 12-15 minutes at 375 degrees. Makes 112 cookies.

Makes 4-6 dozen. Recipe may be halved
