Welcome to the sunny month of July and a summery issue of Betterbaking.com! It's time for Strawberry Shortcake, lemonade, lobster rolls, hot dogs on the grill and S'mores. But it's also cake time!
I’ve been doing a lot of cake baking lately since I recently did a whole feature on them, specifically Southern Layer Cakes for the Huffington Post . It reminded me how festive cakes are and what perfect summer food they make. Have an occasion? Make a cake. There’s no occasion? Then baking a cake can transform a simple gathering into an occasion. This month, I've picked out some very special cakes including the French Strawberry Shortcake above. But before cake, perhaps you need something salty and for that, I’m pleased to share my favorite Garlic Twisty Bread with you as the free recipe of the month.
In the meanwhile, no doubt many of you are off to celebrate summer, as well as July 1st, Canada Day and July 4th holidays.
